Sister time – Take 3

This Friday, Nick and I will be rappelling down the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata, thanks to many of you who donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event is open to the public, so anyone is welcome to come out and cheer us on (and keep Ray company down on the ground). Team Chodura is scheduled to rappel at approximately 10:25 am on Friday.

I met my sister in Montreal for a few days this week. She had to do a presentation to a bunch of suits and attend a networking event – because she’s not yet retired, which I remind her of fairly frequently – and then we had a day and a half to spend together. Montreal is a great city for shopping, festivals, art and culture, but we skipped all that and just spent time talking, eating and laughing, which is kind of our modus operandi. We walked around Montreal, swung on swings in the park, ate ice cream, shared a pitcher of sangria, hung out in our hotel room, ate bagels, walked around some more, ate more ice cream, drank tea and then we ate a super healthy salad before leaving to cancel out all the other stuff.

But excited for my sister to finish work and join me

We ran into French President Macron a couple of times – in town for pre-G7 meetings –  surrounding by a bevy of guys in dark glasses and dark suits who kept talking into their wrists.

Meanwhile, Nick and Ray kept themselves busy with deck building, driving practice, bike rides and baking (Nick made a loaf of cranberry-orange sourdough bread and Ray made a couple of apple-strawberry-rhubarb crumbles). And we’ve all been fitting in a lot more social time – drinks and walks and dinners with friends.

This week we’re looking after a friend’s chocolate lab. It’s a bit like having Boo back, if Boo had been treated for ADHD (and gender identity issues). Rocket is much, much calmer and has been an excellent house guest so far.

  1. To be clear, I suggested a GLASS of Sangria. You made some secret hand signal to the waiter and the next thing I knew there was a very large pitcher of Sangria in front of us. And lots of people staring from nearby tables. They were probably thinking, “they’ll never finish that!” Ha!

    1. Oops. I forgot to log in. Obviously, that last comment is from your partner in Sangria crime.
