Nick’s six months of chemo treatments are finally behind us. At times we felt like this day would never get here. Nick banged the gong in the treatment room as we left and everyone clapped and we hoped to never see them again. As I drove out of the parking lot, We Are the Champions was playing on the radio and it felt like a fitting song to mark the moment. If it was a Hollywood movie, we’d have turned the volume up and sung along at the top of our lungs, but Nick had his eyes closed and was looking a little peaky, so that didn’t happen. We’re so incredibly proud of Nick’s strength and attitude through all this (forgive me if I’ve already mentioned that a few times).
Earlier in the week, we invited Danielle to join us (from Oshawa) for a double dinner date along the canal. I’d booked a Dinner4Four garden dome months ago to celebrate the end of Nick’s treatments. We had a lovely evening with great meals and perfect weather.

Over the next couple of days, Danielle and Nick walked around downtown and spent a lot of time chatting and laughing in the backyard.
Because Nick’s post-treatment recovery has gone so smoothly lately, I felt safe joining a few friends at the lake, complete with margaritas, mimosas, chocolate, chips, desserts, wine, cheese and other ladies’ weekend essentials (missed you Heather). Jen brought along art supplies and taught us a fun paint pouring technique.

I arrived home from the cottage on Sunday at the same time as Nick and Myles, who’d been out having lunch and visiting a coffee roastery and a brewery as part of Ottawa’s Open Doors tours, so another smooth recovery.
So glad it’s going relitavely smoothly. The garden domes look great.
Fingers crossed and happy thoughts for the next few weeks for you all.

I stalled at the ‘Margaritas chocolate chips and desserts’…. mmmmm. I’m so glad you had a chance to chill. I’ve been loving your posts Carolyn. You have to write a book or something.. You and your sister could tag team a professional blog – you’re both so articulate and witty. xoxo
