Home for the Holidays

Wouldn’t it be nice if the excesses of the holiday season could be spread out a bit more evenly throughout the year? So much food…so much sugar…so much socializing. I was under the weather for most of our visit to Georgetown, so it was pretty much eat, socialize, sleep, eat, socialize, sleep. After ten get-togethers with family and friends over our week-long visit, we were quite happy to ignore each other for the 5-hour drive back to Ottawa.

Nick squeezed in a job interview while we were there and walked out with a summer placement at a civil engineering firm in Burlington. He’s relieved to have that off his plate so he doesn’t have to spend time and energy applying for jobs next semester.

He also had his 18-month follow-up appointment with the oncologist and everything is looking good.

It’s strange being “home” for the holidays with my mom and dad no longer around, but I took a stroll past the spot where we scattered their ashes to commune with them for a bit.

“Wanna play with me Nick?” She is so not subtle.

“Yes, I promise…whatever it is you’re saying, I promise to do it…or not to do it. I will love you forever if you will give me that thing you’re holding.”

My sister hosted us for a wonderful Christmas dinner. We had three pups to keep us entertained and there was plenty of laughter. (Above: my niece and nephew)

  1. So many pictures of my furry niece. ☺️
I wish we could spread out the joy a bit more too – more time to enjoy being with family instead of so much preparation! Maybe next year is Christmas pizza??

  2. Great photos again Carolyn. Hope you’re feeling better now and ready to celebrate the new year. Pat and I got together at Tim’s today, and tomorrow Marilyn and I go to the Portuguese. Thanks so much for coming down. HAPPYNEW YEAR. Love, barb
