The Tail End of Summer

Fall has officially arrived, but summer graciously stuck around until the change of season. Now, if winter can wait its turn and arrive on December 21st as scheduled, we’ll be all set (ha ha ha, just a little Canadian humour there). The extra dose of summer provided a perfect opportunity to fit in some outdoor patio time with friends.

Sharing music, wine & food with good friends on a lovely late summer evening

Juno and I have signed up for a couple of classes – a “life skills’ class and a beginner’s agility class. She’s doing well with the home training, but it’s time to add in some distractions, in a group class setting, to see how she does in that environment.  We took her to the Grand Opening of a new dog training school near us. She played well with others and didn’t embarrass us by relieving herself on the floor (as one of the larger dogs did…and I don’t mean peeing).

Juno’s the tail-less one with all 4 paws in the ball pool. The one on the right was a lookalike. (There are treats thrown in under the balls.)

I mentioned in an earlier post that Ray was doing some outdoor carving on tree stumps in our yard. Below are the finished products.

I requested an owl and got this cute little family

A little wood spirit, that unfortunately looks rather phallic from the other side. We’re waiting for the city bylaw officers to stop by saying they’ve had a complaint.

Nick is finding his 2nd-year course load much more manageable than last year’s, so he decided to apply for the Solar Decathlon Design Project where teams from across North America compete to design a residential or commercial building using sustainable technology. They were hiring four architecture-related specialist positions, so Nick was hoping to be picked for one of those. They were also hiring an architecture manager, to whom those four specialists would report, and Nick decided to throw his hat in the ring for that position as well, mainly to get experience with interviews. He was shocked and a bit panicked when he learned he’d been selected for the manager position. It’s a great opportunity for him and will be an incredible learning experience. We’re very proud of his courage in getting outside his comfort zone and taking on new challenges like that.
